Ka Papahana Kaiapuni immersion schools provide kindergarten through twelfth grade Hawaiian language education, with enrollment growing by approximately 1,400 students over the past decade.

Resources dedicated to Hawaiian immersion programming have consistently declined despite growing demand, and a shortage of qualified teachers continues to impede program success and growth.

The resolution encourages the Department of Education to work with the Office of Hawaiian Education to expand Kaiapuni immersion in public schools and create teacher pathways based on funding availability.

The Department of Education is encouraged to consider K-12 instruction across complex districts based on data analysis of needs.

Certified copies of the resolution are to be transmitted to the Board of Education Chairperson and Superintendent of Education.
