Blood banks that facilitate autologous blood donations (blood donated for one's own use) or directed blood donations (blood donated for a specific recipient) must comply with patient requests when supported by a physician's order for a medical procedure that may require transfusion

Licensed hospitals that facilitate blood donations are subject to the same compliance requirements for autologous and directed donation requests based on physician orders

All autologous and directed blood donations collected under this legislation remain subject to applicable federal and state laws and rules

Blood banks and hospitals may charge reasonable fees for facilitating autologous or directed blood donations

Creates new Iowa Code sections 135.39F (for blood banks) and 135B.36 (for hospitals) establishing definitions and requirements for these donation types
