Members of the Iowa General Assembly would be exempt from paying fees to examine or copy public records under this amendment to Code Section 22.3

Current law allows records custodians to charge reasonable fees for supervising examination and making copies of public records; this bill creates an exception for legislators

The fee exemption applies only to records that are publicly accessible under Section 22.2 and subject to confidentiality restrictions in Section 22.7

Political subdivisions would be required to comply with this mandate even without state funding, as the bill makes the standard unfunded mandate relief provision inapplicable
