Amends Iowa Code Section 144C.8 to add a third circumstance for forfeiture of authority to control a decedent's final remains disposition

Designees or persons with control authority forfeit their rights if charged with first or second degree murder or voluntary manslaughter in connection with the decedent's death

Authority is also forfeited if the designee fails to exercise control within 24 hours of death notification or 40 hours of death, whichever is earlier

New provision requires forfeiture if cremated remains are not claimed within 30 calendar days after receiving written notice from a third party

Effective date: July 1, 2026
