Holders of valid class I or class III dock permits may construct roofs over boat hoists or slips on private docks

Roof construction requirements include: rust-resistant materials, maximum width of 30 feet, maximum height of 20 feet above normal water elevation, positioned above the boat slip or hoist, and prohibited from use for sleeping or habitation

Dock owners must maintain liability insurance with minimum coverage of $1 million per occurrence and are liable for any damages caused by the roof structure

Nonprofit community associations managing subdivisions adjacent to public lakes may establish additional restrictions and requirements for dock roof construction that apply to their members and guests
