Amends Iowa Code section 622.9 to clarify that a spouse cannot be required to testify about any communication made by one spouse to the other while married

Protects communications made during marriage even after the marriage ends, preventing former spouses from being required to reveal such communications in testimony

Allows a subpoenaed person to assert spousal privilege and refuse to disclose any information relating to communications made while married to another person

Maintains existing exceptions under sections 232.74 and 726.4 related to child abuse reporting, neglect, abandonment, nonsupport, and child endangerment cases

Preserves the right of spouses or former spouses to be examined in cases involving children's injuries and related criminal prosecutions, but makes such testimony voluntary rather than compelled
