Requires the Iowa Department of Education director to develop and distribute an age-appropriate model firearm safety program for K-12 students by July 1, 2026

Model program for kindergarten through grade 6 must be based on the NRA's Eddie Eagle GunSafe program; school districts are encouraged but not required to implement it

Starting with the 2026-2027 school year, school districts must offer or make available an approved firearm safety instruction course to all students in grades 7-12, including nonpublic school students within the district

Model program for grades 7-12 must be based on the NRA's hunter education course; instructors are not required to hold a teaching license from the Board of Educational Examiners

Courses may be offered at off-campus locations, during summer, on Saturdays, or outside regular school hours; compliance costs are to be paid from existing state school foundation aid with no additional state funding
