Removes three conditions that currently make a person ineligible to receive a permit to carry weapons: addiction to alcohol, documented actions within two years suggesting likely unlawful weapon use, and conviction within three years of a serious or aggravated misdemeanor not involving firearms or explosives

Changes terminology throughout Iowa Code chapter 724 from "permit to acquire pistols or revolvers" to "permit to acquire firearms" and from "dangerous weapons" to "firearms"

Eliminates the prohibition on acquiring a pistol or revolver for persons deemed ineligible to possess dangerous weapons under section 724.8B

Removes identification and notification requirements for the clerk of court and Department of Public Safety regarding persons prohibited from acquiring pistols or revolvers

Requires issuing officers to notify the commissioner of public safety at least monthly of permit issuances and forward $5 for each permit to acquire firearms issued
