At least 80% of students accepted to the University of Iowa College of Law must be Iowa residents or persons previously enrolled in an eligible Iowa postsecondary institution.

Iowa residents must receive admission priority over out-of-state applicants to the College of Law.

Applications must include an attestation where applicants indicate whether they were born in Iowa, graduated from an Iowa high school, have family residing in Iowa, graduated from an Iowa institution, or intend to practice law in Iowa after graduation.

The University of Iowa must submit an annual report to the General Assembly detailing the number of Iowa resident applicants accepted and denied, including brief explanations for each denial.

"Resident of Iowa" is defined as an individual who graduated from an Iowa high school or has lived in Iowa for at least four consecutive years immediately before beginning classes at the College of Law.
