Users who provide input to an artificial intelligence system own the output generated from that input, provided the output does not infringe on third-party copyrights or intellectual property rights.

Persons who train an AI system own the resulting trained AI if the training data was lawfully acquired and they have not transferred ownership rights through contract or agreement.

AI output or trained AI created by employees within the scope of their employment duties belongs to the employer, when conducted under employer direction and control and meeting other specified conditions.

Ownership cannot be granted under this chapter if it would infringe on preexisting copyrights or other intellectual property rights.

Establishes definitions for "artificial intelligence," "input," "output," "train," and "user" under new Iowa Code chapter 554J.
