Amends Iowa Code section 724.6 to add members of the general assembly to the list of persons eligible for professional permits to carry weapons, alongside peace officers, county attorneys, and assistant county attorneys.

Applications from general assembly members must be submitted to the sheriff of the county where the applicant resides, and the sheriff may require completion of a proficiency examination at the applicant's expense.

Proficiency examination standards for general assembly members cannot exceed those required of peace officers.

Permits issued to general assembly members authorize carrying weapons anywhere in the state at all times, including on school grounds.

Permits remain valid through the holder's period of employment (term in office) unless otherwise canceled, and must be surrendered to the issuing officer upon termination of employment.
