State Board of Regents must establish general education requirements for undergraduate students at Iowa's regents institutions, capped at 40 total semester credit hours

Required coursework includes 6 semester hours each in English composition, world language, mathematics/statistics, natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities, plus 3 hours each in western heritage and American heritage

Courses satisfying general education requirements cannot distort historical events or include curriculum teaching identity politics or theories that systemic racism, sexism, oppression, or privilege are inherent in U.S. or Iowa institutions

Board may waive requirements for degree programs of three years or less, or for programs in complex fields requiring increased focus on major coursework

Any person may report potential violations to the Attorney General, who may seek a writ of mandamus to compel institutional compliance; applies to students beginning enrollment on or after July 1, 2027
