Railway corporations must provide at least 30 days advance notice to the governmental entity with jurisdiction over a railway crossing before closing it for repairs or upgrades

Notice requirements are waived if the closure could not reasonably be anticipated 30 days in advance or occurs due to an emergency

Required notices must include an estimated completion date for the repairs or upgrades

Railway corporations must notify the governmental entity as soon as practicable if work will extend beyond the initial estimated completion date

Violations are punishable as a "schedule one" penalty under section 327C.5, which carries a $100 fine
