Schools (public districts, accredited nonpublic, charter, and innovation zone schools) may offer an elective junior fire fighter program to students in grades 11 and 12

Programs must prepare students for Firefighter I certification testing through the fire service training bureau, either by using national organization curriculum or partnering with local fire departments

Schools offering the program must coordinate with the fire service training bureau and local fire departments to provide appropriate materials and skills training for certification

Students who pass all Firefighter I certification exams before turning 18 will have certification issued upon reaching age 18

Participating students must submit a liability waiver signed by a parent/guardian (if minor) or by the student (if 18 or emancipated)
