Peace officers must issue a citation and impound any motor vehicle with a front windshield that has less than 50 percent light transmittance when operated on the highway.

Drivers can avoid impoundment by immediately removing or modifying the windshield tinting to meet at least 70 percent light transmittance, or by towing the vehicle off the highway without unreasonable delay.

Vehicles impounded or towed under this law cannot be operated on highways until the front windshield meets the minimum 70 percent light transmittance standard.

Federal, state, and local law enforcement vehicles are exempt from these requirements when operated as part of official duties.

Violations of the existing window tinting law carry a scheduled fine of $70.
