Alzheimer's disease is identified as a leading cause of death in Idaho, with approximately 26,000 Idahoans expected to be living and dying with the disease in 2010.

Forty-one percent of over 12,000 Idahoans living in nursing homes have moderate to severe dementia.

The Health Quality Planning Commission is encouraged to examine the public health impact and financial, emotional, and care burden of Alzheimer's disease on patients and state government.

The Commission is requested to review state policies and practices concerning Alzheimer's disease and assess current and future demand for industries, services, and resources needed by persons with Alzheimer's disease, their families, and caregivers.

The Commission is encouraged to develop a state Alzheimer's disease and other dementias strategic plan with broad public and private sector input.
