Increases maximum prison sentence for willfully causing or permitting injury to a child under circumstances likely to produce great bodily harm or death from ten (10) years to twenty (20) years.

Maintains county jail sentence option of not exceeding one (1) year, or state prison sentence of not less than one (1) year for the same offense.

Preserves existing misdemeanor classification for injury to children under circumstances not likely to produce great bodily harm or death.

Preserves existing felony provisions for persons over eighteen (18) years who transport minors under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances, with up to ten (10) years imprisonment if child suffers bodily injury or death.

Retains religious exemption allowing parents or guardians who choose prayer or spiritual treatment for their child to not be construed as violating duty of care.
