Idaho relies heavily on volunteer emergency medical services providers in its predominantly rural areas, which are vital to public safety for residents and visitors.

The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare is encouraged to conduct outreach town hall meetings throughout the state to understand challenges hindering recruitment and retention of volunteer EMS providers.

Town hall meetings should be scheduled in evening hours and held in locations requiring stakeholders to travel no more than 50 miles whenever possible to maximize participation.

The Department should gather feedback and suggestions for improvement during the town hall meetings and incorporate this input into development of programs, policies, plans, and procedures for emergency medical services in Idaho.
