House Bill 200 - Office of the Inspector General

• Establishes a state Inspector General position appointed by the Governor for a 6-year term, subject to Senate confirmation and removable for cause by the Governor with Senate concurrence.

• Grants the Inspector General authority to receive complaints, investigate fraud, waste, abuse, and corruption by state agencies and employees, and prepare detailed investigation reports with findings and corrective measures.

• Requires state agencies to cooperate with investigations, promptly report criminal acts and financial irregularities, and make premises, records, and personnel available to the Inspector General without prior announcement.

• Authorizes the Inspector General and designated investigators to issue summonses, administer oaths, obtain warrants, and request subpoenas from courts for document production upon showing reasonable cause.

• Requires annual reports to the Governor and legislature by January 10, with at least quarterly updates to relevant agencies; exempts the judicial branch from these provisions and preserves legislative oversight authority.
