State board establishes standards for accreditation of secondary schools in public, private, parochial, and chartered school districts.

State board may withdraw accreditation from secondary schools that fail to conform to established standards and may reinstate accreditation when standards are met again.

If a graduation requirement includes passage of a standards achievement test, students with parent or guardian approval may choose an alternate route offered by their school district or charter district instead of taking the test.

Secondary school is defined as a school organized and administered on the basis of grades 7-12 or any combination thereof.

Elementary school is defined as a school organized and administered on the basis of grades 1-6, 1-8, or any combination of grades 1-8.
