Fire protection boards with 33% or more of property/area or population in two or more counties shall have not more than two (2) commissioners from the same county, or not more than three (3) if the board has five (5) members.

Fire protection commissioners must be elector residents within the district for at least one (1) year immediately preceding their election, and the revision of subdistricts shall not disqualify any elected commissioner from completing their current term.

Boards of fire protection district commissioners shall revise subdistricts within six (6) months following the end of each decennial United States census reporting year to equalize population, area, and mileage between subdistricts as nearly as practicable.

Notice of revised subdistricts must be provided to the county clerk of the affected county or counties by means of a resolution that includes a map depicting the revised subdistrict boundaries.

Any fire protection board with five (5) members may, by a four-fifths (4/5) majority vote, elect to decrease the board size to three (3) members, with the first election thereafter having one commissioner elected to a two (2)-year term and two commissioners elected to four (4)-year terms.
