Any person 21 years of age or older may carry concealed weapons without a license, unless prohibited by state or federal law or disqualified under specified criteria including criminal convictions, mental health adjudications, drug use, or protection orders.

Persons qualified to carry concealed weapons may apply for an optional license, which is valid for five (5) years and requires a $20.00 fee for original issuance and $15.00 for renewal.

License applicants must submit fingerprints for national background checks conducted by Idaho State Police, which must be completed within 60 days; sheriffs must deny licenses to disqualified applicants.

Temporary emergency licenses are removed from law; persons ages 18-21 may obtain a concealed weapons license at the sheriff's discretion with appropriate limitations and distinguishable markings.

Cities and counties are prohibited from modifying or adding requirements to the state concealed weapons statute; violations allow civil actions for injunctive relief and attorney's fees recovery.
