House Bill 509 Summary

• Idaho Geological Survey shall preserve samples and records pertaining to mineral, oil, and gas resources and may use them for assessments and characterization of geologic resources as part of its mission.

• Idaho Geological Survey may provide owners of samples or records with reports of determinations and identifications specific to materials they provided.

• Idaho Geological Survey is authorized to share records and information with the Idaho Oil and Gas Conservation Commission and Department of Lands for their authorized functions, with such shared information remaining exempt from public disclosure under Idaho public records law.

• Information derived from samples and records may be used by Idaho Geological Survey in regional geology studies, dissemination of geological data, and publication of reports and maps on state geology and mineral resources.

• Sharing of records between the Idaho Geological Survey, Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, and Department of Lands shall not make shared information subject to disclosure under Idaho public records act, though information sharing with other state agencies is permitted when authorized by law.
