House Bill 533 Summary

• Hospital district boards may appoint up to two (2) additional members beyond the seven (7) elected trustees to obtain specialized skills, with board approval by unanimous vote.

• Appointed board members serve terms not to exceed six (6) years, may be removed by majority vote of elected members, and have same duties as elected members except cannot vote on tax levy decisions.

• Quorum requirement changes from four (4) members to a majority of board members for any meeting.

• Vacancy of an elected member is filled by remaining board members until the next biennial election; if board fails to fill within thirty (30) days, county commissioners fill the vacancy.

• For vacancies of appointed members, a majority of the board determines whether to fill the vacant position.
