Vehicles under control of the Idaho State Police used for traffic enforcement or to enforce laws need not be marked with "State of Idaho" lettering, provided at least 90% of Idaho State Police vehicles remain marked as required.

Motor vehicles under control of the Department of Health and Welfare and the Idaho Department of Juvenile Corrections are exempt from standard state vehicle markings when used for official state business and law enforcement purposes.

Other state departments, agencies, or entities must apply in writing to the Idaho State Police director for permission to use unmarked vehicles for confidential investigative purposes, with permission granted only upon written approval and a finding of good cause.

State Police vehicles used for traffic enforcement are exempt from the identification stripe requirements in section 49-2427 but must still display blue or white lighting as required.
