Over 300,000 Idaho adults provide unpaid care to family members, relatives, or friends annually, valued at an estimated $2 billion per year.

Idaho's population aged 65 and older is the fastest growing demographic, projected to reach 370,000 by 2032, while the ratio of working-age to older adults will decline from 6:1 in 2010 to 3:1 by 2020.

Approximately 77,000 unpaid family caregivers in Idaho care for roughly 22,000 people with Alzheimer's disease or related disorders, and an estimated 53,000 children have special health care needs.

Supports the Idaho Lifespan Family Caregiver Action Plan recommendations: increase public awareness about family caregiving, provide caregiver training, improve caregiver support and respite resources, integrate caregivers into health care system transformations, and establish ongoing data collection methods.
