School trustee zone boundaries must be drawn along existing county voting precinct boundaries to the greatest extent possible while maintaining approximately equal population in each zone.

School boards may authorize districtwide voting for all trustees by majority vote, with each elector voting for one candidate in each trustee zone; boards must decide by October 1, 2017 whether to allow districtwide voting or zone-only voting, and can only change this method by affirmative majority vote thereafter.

School trustee terms begin on January 1 instead of July 1, with incumbent trustees' terms adjusted accordingly (e.g., a term that would have expired July 1, 2019 instead expires January 1, 2019).

School trustee elections move to the third Tuesday in May following the first Monday in November in even-numbered years, and candidates receiving the most votes districtwide (if applicable) or within their zone are elected.

Recall petitions for school trustees or trustee zone positions require signatures equal to 50% of electors who cast votes in the last election, or 20% of registered electors if no election occurred within the past six years.
