Amends Idaho Code Section 66-337 to change the advance notice period for releasing certain mentally ill patients from 30 days to 10 business days before release from an inpatient facility.

The shortened notice requirement applies to patients acquitted of criminal charges filed before July 1, 1982 on grounds of mental disease or defect, and those committed as unfit to proceed.

The department director or designee must notify the committing court and prosecuting attorney of the contemplated release under the revised timeline.

Upon notification of intention to release, the court may order an independent examination of the patient and determine whether conditions justifying release exist, with examination costs borne by the moving party or county if indigent.
