A person previously convicted of a felony who purchases, owns, possesses, or controls any firearm is guilty of a felony punishable by up to 5 years imprisonment and a fine not to exceed $5,000.

A person convicted of domestic violence who purchases, owns, possesses, or controls any firearm within two years of conviction is guilty of a misdemeanor punishable by up to 6 months county jail time or a fine not to exceed $1,000, or both.

"Convicted of a felony" includes persons who entered guilty pleas, nolo contendere pleas, or were found guilty of crimes listed in Idaho Code section 18-310 or comparable felony crimes in other jurisdictions.

"Convicted of domestic violence" includes persons who entered guilty pleas or were found guilty of violations under Idaho Code section 18-918(3)(a) or (b) or substantially conforming foreign criminal violations, regardless of judgment form.

Firearm prohibitions do not apply to persons whose convictions were expunged, pardoned, set aside, or whose civil right to bear arms was restored under Idaho law.
