Administrators in charter schools may be certified through traditional public school requirements (chapter 12, title 33) or through a new charter school administrator certificate.

Charter school administrator certificate applicants must hold a bachelor's degree, submit to criminal history check, complete a minimum of 3 semester credits in teacher evaluation framework with laboratory component, and obtain a letter from the charter school board of directors stating commitment to hire and oversee the applicant.

Applicants must have one of the following: 5+ years administering a public charter school, a post-baccalaureate degree with 5+ years in school/public/business/military administration, completion of a nationally recognized charter school leaders fellowship, or 5+ years teaching experience with mentor commitment from an administrator at a charter school in good standing.

Charter school administrator certificates are valid for 5 years and renewable thereafter, subject to professional standards commission oversight and revocation provisions.
