Nursing home administrator applicants must complete 1,000 hours of supervised training under a licensed nursing home administrator, after which they are eligible to take the licensing examination.

The administrator-in-training program cannot exceed 2 years unless the board approves an extension for good cause.

The 1,000-hour training requirement does not apply to individuals with a master's degree in health administration related to long-term care from an accredited institution.

The 1,000-hour training requirement does not apply to individuals with a master's degree in health administration with a health care emphasis from an accredited institution who have 1 year of management experience in a health care facility providing inpatient care.

Applicants may begin the 1,000-hour training period before completing a baccalaureate degree.
