Career technical education instructional staff with occupational specialist certificates new to Idaho public schools receive career ladder placement based on industry experience: 2-3 years equals one year advancement; 4-5 years equals two years; 6-7 years equals three years; 8+ years equals four years of advancement.

Existing career technical education staff on the residency compensation rung may have their placement updated to a higher rung if they meet the industry experience criteria in section 33-1004B(4)(a).

School districts receive an additional $3,000 annual allocation for career technical education instructional staff holding occupational specialist certificates, designated for staff salaries.

The state board of education may authorize career technical education certificates for individuals who pass a criminal history check and meet at least one criterion: hold an approved industry certification, demonstrate 6,000 hours of professional experience, or hold a bachelor's degree plus 2,000 hours of professional experience.

Certificate applicants must complete an educator training program or courses approved by the division of career technical education.
