House Bill No. 203 Summary

• School districts may employ retired school resource officers, certificated teachers, school bus drivers, and administrators receiving PERSI benefits as at-will employees, except those who received early retirement benefits.

• Retirees employed under this provision accrue 1 day per month of sick leave with no annual accumulation unless negotiated, and sick leave does not qualify for unused sick leave benefits.

• School districts are not required to provide health or life insurance to reemployed retirees, though post-termination benefits may be negotiated.

• Retired schoolteachers, school bus drivers, or administrators age 60 or older who return to work with a school district may elect to continue receiving PERSI benefits without accruing additional service or making contributions, while the school district pays the required employer contribution.

• The act is declared an emergency and takes effect immediately upon passage and approval.
