Repeals Section 14-534, Idaho Code, relating to State Historical Society use of property.

Removes provision requiring the State Historical Society to bear at least partial expense for reinterment of human remains disturbed through inadvertence in construction, mining, or logging activities.

Removes provision crediting rental proceeds from the Old Penitentiary Site beyond maintenance and historic interpretation costs to the permanent building fund.

Allows the director of the State Historical Society to concurrently serve as state historic preservation officer if appointed by the governor, rather than requiring this role.

Changes the state historic preservation officer position to be appointed by the governor and allows the position to be held by the historical society director, a historical society employee, or an independent individual to fulfill federal obligations under 54 U.S.C. 302303.
