House Bill 614 - Building Codes Adoption Summary

• Adopts the 2018 International Building Code, 2018 International Residential Code, and 2018 International Energy Conservation Code as state standards, effective January 1 following adoption by the Idaho building code board.

• Adopts the 2017 National Electrical Code (NFPA 70) and 2017 Idaho State Plumbing Code as minimum standards for electrical and plumbing installations statewide.

• Adopts the 2018 International Mechanical Code, 2018 International Fuel Gas Code, and parts V and VI of the 2018 International Residential Code for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.

• Requires local governments to adopt the same codes within their jurisdictions by ordinance, while allowing limited amendments to address local concerns if they maintain equivalent protection levels.

• Declares an emergency and makes the act effective July 1, 2022.
