Starting in fiscal year 2024, all grade 8 students in Idaho public schools, specially chartered districts, and public charter schools must complete one or more career exploration courses using state board of education "first step" standards for career technical education.

Career exploration courses may be taught in person, or through virtual education, online, or hybrid formats, and may be taught by instructional staff, occupational specialists, school counselors, or advisors who complete required professional development.

Career exploration courses may be used to satisfy the middle school health class requirement.

Every student must have an annual career pathway plan developed with parent or guardian assistance and reviewed annually, with progress reports provided to parents electronically or otherwise.

Funding under sections 33-1002 and 33-1212A may be used to support career exploration courses and professional development for instructors; the bill takes effect July 1, 2022.
