Ed Cheff compiled a 1,705-430-2 record as head baseball coach at Lewis-Clark State College from 1977 to 2010, the fifth-most wins of any college baseball coach with a .798 winning percentage.

His teams won 16 NAIA national championships, the most for any college baseball coach at any level, and produced 72 NAIA All Americans, 3 NAIA Players of the Year, and 114 Major League draft selections including 16 who played in the Major Leagues.

Cheff received NAIA Coach of the Year honors eight times, won the Lefty Gomez Award in 2009, and was inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame (1994), American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame (2006), and National College Baseball Hall of Fame (2012).

Lewis-Clark State College renamed its baseball stadium the Ed Cheff Stadium at Harris Field in 2017 and inducted Cheff as the first member of the Warrior Hall of Fame in 2011.

The Idaho Legislature honors Cheff's life and achievements, recognizes his contributions to college baseball and the State of Idaho, and extends condolences to his family, including wife Karen and sons Trevor, Tyler, and Toby.
