No in-person student instruction shall occur on the third Tuesday in May of each year and the Tuesday following the first Monday in November of each year to ensure student safety and provide suitable polling locations for elections.

School boards may determine what instruction or activities, if any, to hold on election days, provided such activities do not require or encourage students to be present in school facilities or on school grounds.

Activities permitted on election days include professional development, personnel training, and teacher in-service.

For elections scheduled in March or August at schools designated as polling places, boards may determine instruction and activities without the restriction on student presence.

The act takes effect on July 1, 2024.
