House Bill 133 Summary

• Allows pupils eligible for driver's training to receive instruction from a qualifying parent or legal guardian as an alternative to formal driver's training courses, known as "parent-student driver's training."

• Requires qualifying parents or guardians to possess a valid Idaho driver's license permitting unaccompanied driving and to have had no license suspensions, revocations, or cancellations in the previous two years.

• Parent-student driver's training must include 92 total hours over at least six months, with minimum 50 hours of street or highway driving and 10 hours of night driving.

• Reduces the nonrefundable permit fee from $15.00 to $10.00 for pupils participating in parent-student driver's training.

• Makes technical corrections to code references in sections 49-302 and 49-303 regarding driver's license requirements.

• Effective date: January 1, 2024, with emergency clause declared.
