Idaho recognizes the importance of a strong and enduring partnership with Taiwan, based on shared commitment to democracy, freedom, human rights, the rule of law, and market economy.

Taiwan is the eighth largest U.S. trading partner with $113.9 billion in bilateral trade (2021) and Idaho's second largest trading partner at $3.15 billion (2022), with significant agricultural exports including $667 million in beef products.

Idaho and Taiwan have maintained a sister state relationship since 1984 and signed multiple agreements including a Memorandum of Education Cooperation (2018), a wheat purchase letter of intent for $576 million (2022), and a Memorandum of Understanding on Industrial Cooperation (December 2022).

Idaho condemns Chinese military escalations toward Taiwan and supports Taiwan's meaningful participation in international organizations addressing global health, civilian air safety, and transnational crime, as well as in bilateral and multilateral security summits and economic forums.

Idaho welcomes increased trade and investment with Taiwan through free and fair trade agreements, participation in the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity, and capacity-building programs in public health, women's empowerment, energy efficiency, and e-commerce.
