HB 481 - Employment Security Law Summary

• Requires unemployment benefit claimants to conduct five (5) work search actions per week, with at least four (4) of those actions from a specified list beginning in the third week of eligibility.

• Establishes acceptable work search actions including job workshops, assessments, resume preparation, mock interviews, civil service exams, job applications, employer interviews, and job fairs.

• Mandates claimants report work search actions at least weekly to the department and accept suitable work offered within three (3) business days.

• Requires the department to establish an email address and web portal allowing employers to report suspected violations of work acceptance requirements, with annual notification to employers.

• Changes reestablishment of eligibility requirements from fourteen (14) times to twenty-six (26) times the weekly benefit amount, and modifies successive benefit year eligibility from six (6) times to twenty-six (26) times the weekly benefit amount.

• Effective July 1, 2024.
