Authorizes sheriffs to seek reimbursement from the Idaho Department of Correction or Idaho Commission of Pardons and Parole for costs incurred when traveling to another state to recapture an absconded prisoner, probationer, or parolee.

Reimbursable costs include travel expenses, personnel costs, and any other reasonable costs associated with returning the absconding person to custody in Idaho.

Sheriffs must submit an itemized invoice detailing recapture costs to the agency from which the person absconded, as indicated in court records.

The receiving agency must ensure reimbursement occurs within 30 days of receiving the cost for recapture invoice.

Becomes effective July 1, 2024, with an emergency declaration.
