Requires the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare to notify parents, guardians, or persons with legal custody in writing when investigating allegations of child abuse, neglect, or abandonment.

Notification must occur at the time of or within 72 hours after the department makes first in-person contact with the parents, guardians, or custodians.

Informs parents and guardians of their rights to refuse to answer questions, obtain an attorney at their own expense, refuse entry to their home or property, and refuse questioning of minor children unless authorized by a court order.

Requires notification to be made on a department-prescribed form stating that the department may request law enforcement assistance or seek a court order if the child's safety cannot be determined.

Failure to provide notification does not affect the department's ability to conduct investigations or carry out its duties under Idaho Code.

Effective July 1, 2024.
