Schools must notify parents at least 2 weeks before any instruction on human sexuality and obtain signed written permission within 1 week of instruction start date for students to participate

"Human sexuality" is defined broadly to include sexual conduct, pleasure, intimacy, abuse, violence, eroticism, pornography, deviant sexual behavior, sexual attraction, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender ideology, and gender conversion

Students without parental permission must receive alternative educational instruction that meets grade level or graduation requirements without addressing human sexuality topics

School boards must investigate alleged violations reported by parents within 30 days and may subject employees who violate the permission requirements to disciplinary action

Parents may sue school boards for violations after exhausting other remedies and can recover actual damages and injunctive relief; effective date is July 1, 2025
