School employees with school board permission may carry concealed handguns on school property if they possess an enhanced concealed carry license or have completed POST training (maximum 6 days of school defense training including scenario response and firearm proficiency)

Concealed handguns carried by school employees must be loaded only with hollow-point ammunition; ball ammunition is prohibited on school grounds

School employees carrying concealed weapons must notify their principal and superintendent, and information must be shared with local law enforcement, county sheriff, and Idaho State Police, though records remain confidential and exempt from public disclosure

No school employee can be required to carry a concealed weapon, and employees cannot face civil or criminal liability for deciding whether or not to engage an active shooter, provided their actions comply with self-defense laws

Public schools are prohibited from displaying signage indicating school property is a gun-free zone; effective date is July 1, 2025
