When a U.S. Senate vacancy occurs in Idaho, the governor must appoint a date to hold a special election rather than simply appointing someone to serve until the next general election

Removes the previous provision allowing gubernatorial appointees to hold office until the next general election, replacing it with a requirement for a called election

Eliminates the 30-day pre-election blackout period that previously prevented Senate vacancy elections from being held at an upcoming general election

Special elections to fill U.S. Senate vacancies (along with U.S. House vacancies) are exempted from the state's limit of two elections per county per year

Declared an emergency measure, taking effect July 1, 2025
