School districts and charter schools must conduct annual independent inspections for compliance with electrical, plumbing, mechanical, fire safety, structural, and sanitary codes, plus testing for radon, mold, and lead under specified conditions

Radon testing required for facilities with regularly occupied basements, in radon-prone areas, or buildings without radon-resistant construction; mold testing required when excess moisture, leaks, or visible mold present; lead testing required for facilities built before 1978 or showing signs of lead pipes or decay

School boards must report safety violations to parents, legal guardians of affected students, and affected staff; violations of reporting requirements subject to fines up to $5,000 per violation plus $1,000 per day for continuing violations

Employees who report violations or suspected violations in good faith receive whistleblower protection under Idaho Code section 6-2104
