Parents or legal guardians of self-directed learners may request reimbursement from school districts or public charter schools for expenses directly related to flexible learning and meeting self-directed learner criteria

Reimbursement is capped at 65% of the public school funding received by the district or charter school for that student

School districts and public charter schools must develop policies for reimbursement request submission and deadlines

Self-directed learners are counted as 1.0 FTE for funding purposes regardless of actual attendance or instruction hours

Effective date is July 1, 2025, with emergency declaration
