County sheriff's offices may seek reimbursement from the Idaho Department of Correction for costs incurred when traveling to another state to collect prisoners, probationers, or parolees who have absconded from state supervision.

Reimbursable costs include mileage, travel expenses, personnel costs, overtime for coverage of traveling personnel, and other reasonable expenses associated with returning the absconding person to Idaho.

Reimbursement requires submitting an itemized invoice to the Department of Correction after the person has been collected and placed in county jail.

The Idaho Department of Correction must appropriate funds annually for these expenses and process reimbursement within 30 days of receiving an invoice.
