Career technical education instructional staff with occupational specialist certificates can be placed on the career ladder based on industry experience: 2-3 years of industry experience equals 1 year on the ladder, 4-5 years equals 2 years, 6-7 years equals 3 years, and 8+ years equals 4 years.

Pupil service staff new to Idaho public schools with industry experience in a closely related field receive similar career ladder placement credit based on their years of industry experience, following the same 2-3/4-5/6-7/8+ year tiers.

Staff placed directly on the professional compensation rung through industry experience must meet performance criteria based on their years of industry experience before advancing, with requirements gradually increasing from 1 year of criteria met for those with 1 year experience up to standard 4-year requirements for those with 4+ years.

Pupil service staff and career technical education instructional staff may use their calculated industry experience years to meet eligibility requirements for professional and advanced professional endorsements.

Effective date is July 1, 2026, declared as an emergency measure.
